For over a decade (until it ceased publication in 2016), Teri was a regular contributor to Sanctuary, The Magazine of the Massachusetts Audubon Society. Articles included:

  •  “Outside In–musings on the human tendency to invite images and materials of nature into our dwellings”

  • “Tree Work–What Trees Do and How They Do It”

  • “New Plants in Town–Changing Plant Communities in a Time of Climate Change”

Teri began her professional career in magazines two decades ago, working her way up the editorial department’s ladder at Horticulture Magazine. She worked there 11 years, departing as an Associate Editor. Articles included:

  • “New Introductions,” annual roundup of new plant varieties from the seed and nursery industry

  • many articles on water/aquatic gardening, including how to plant and care for tropical and hardy waterlilies; how to install a simple pond; good/non-invasive accent plants; a profile of award-winning water gardener W.C. Frase and his Orlando, FL home garden

  • public-garden visits, including Marie Selby Gardens, Orlando, FL and Denver Botanic Gardens, CO

  • profiles of wildflowers, including the Texas bluebonnet and the California poppy

  • “Seeds Blum,” a profile of a homegrown seed company in rural Idaho specializing in heirloom and open-pollinated seeds (this article won a Garden Writers of America award)

This segued into, in later years, acting as a consultant for a startup called North American Gardener. She had the unique combination of publishing skills/experience and knowledge of horticulture; she also brought them many good contacts (other writers, photographers and illustrators, industry professionals). This venture closed after two years.

She was also a regular contributor to Backyard Living Magazine (articles included “Deer-Proofing Your Yard,” “Ornamental Grasses,” “Sedums”) and blogged for Birds & Blooms as their Northeast US rep (topics included “10 Surprising Facts about Mourning Doves,” “Scary Crows,” and “The Seagulls of Thacher Island”).
